Regular replacement of your Positive Airway Pressure (PAP) Supplies and other Durable Medical Equipment (DME) is important to effective treatment and sanitary breathing environment. Though most private insurances allow replacement of supplies sooner when medically necessary. Generally, the published Medicare replacement guidelines are most commonly used as the minimum standard. How you care for your equipment, its composition, your skin type, and other environmental factors influence greatly how long your PAP DME will last. This then ultimately affects the effectiveness of your therapy in increased leaks, skin irritation, awakenings, and possible respiratory infections. At PSP we recommend patients at the very least follow the Medicare replacement schedule when their equipment is showing signs of wear. Contact either PSP or your current DME supplier for details on how to keep your equipment up to date. We have posted a summary of the recommended Medicare schedule below for your convenience:

  • About the team

    Before joining Pacific Sleep Program in 2009, Dr. Hagen was Assistant Professor at Oregon Health and Science University where he enjoyed teaching medical students, residents and sleep medicine fellows. He has book chapters, review articles and novel research published on sleep apnea, disorders of excessive sleepiness, sleep disruption and the identification and classification of various sleep disorders. He continues occasional teaching activities and has ongoing research, but devotes most of his time to clinical care in sleep medicine at Pacific Sleep Program.
